THE PRESIDENT. The Council elected on the 4th December Mr. George Acheson Overend, of Dublin, to be President of the Society for the ensuing twelve months. The newly-elected President was admitted a Solicitor in Michaelmas Sittings, 1907. He was elected a member of the Council of the Society in 1928, and was a Vice-President of the Society for the year 1933-34. THE VICE-PRESIDENTS. The Council has elected Mr. John J. Dunne of Kildare and Mr. John J. Dundon of Limerick to be Vice-Presidents for the ensuing twelve months. MEETING OF THE COUNCIL. 13th November. Fifteen members present. Courts of Justice. A letter was read from the Minister for Justice drawing attention to the fact that in the cases of four of the Society's repre– sentatives who are members of Rules Committees under the Courts of Justice Act, 1936, each of their periods of five years will expire on 13th prox. and that steps should be taken by the Council in the matter. Finance. The Council approved and ratified the action of the Finance Committee in applying for £1,000 National Security Loan which has since been allotted to the Society. LEGAL PRACTITIONERS (QUALIFICATION) ACT, 1929. A " First " Examination in Irish and a " Second" Examination in Irish will be

held on Friday and Saturday, the 6th and 7th days of February, 1942. Notices of intention to attend either of the above-mentioned examinations should be lodged in the Secretary's Office before the 16th day of January. HILARY SITTINGS LECTURES, 1942: Senior class lectures will begin on Tuesday, the 13th January. Junior class lectures will begin upon Monday, the 12th January. EXAMINATION PAPERS, 1941. The Booklet containing the papers set at all the examinations held by the Society during the year 1941 can now be obtained from the Secretary's Office. Price 2/-, post free. THE INCORPORATED LAW SOCIETY OF NORTHERN IRELAND. Mr. John Archer, of City Hall, Belfast, has been elected President of the Society for the vear 1941-42. THE SOUTHERN LAW ASSOCIATION. Mr. John J. Stanton, of-; 47 South Mall, Cork, has been elected President of the Association for the year 1941-42. OBITUARY. MR. JAMES G. FRANKS, Solicitor, died on 2nd November, 1941, at his residence, " Roseneath," Malahide. Mr. Franks served his apprenticeship to the late Mr. John Maunsell, Dublin, and was
