Up to the present Memorials on Deed paper are not being used as widely as expected following the representations made on the grounds of the scarcity of parchment. Where Deed paper is used, in the interests of preserving our documents we are trying to insist on the best quality available. We will not return a Memorial unless the paper is of poor quality and therefore not very durable or the contents are not typed and the writing difficult to decipher. Most of those instances are referred to me for a direction before doing so. Whilst the question of form and size has not yet been decided there is an excellent form of Memorial available measuring 14" x 10" which meets our require- ments admirably. It seems to be procurable from most of the Law Stationers. In my letter to you of 28th January last I asked you to request your members to use the best quality paper and to have the material typed. Perhaps you would be good enough to repeat our request.

L A W Y E R S I N D I C T B R I T I S H O N T R E A T M E N T O F P R I S O N E RS The Northern Ireland Associátion of Legal Justice, in a statement last night, accused the British Govern- ment of violating the "standard minimum rules for the treatment of prisoners" adopted by a resolution of the U.N. Economic and Social Council to which Britain agreed on July 31, 1957. The Association says that flagrant violations of these rules by the security forces in Northern Ireland during the past year and especially since August 9 when in- ternment began must be made known to the world and responsible international agencies must take immediate action to see that Britain abides by them.
