GENTLEMEN, The Council's Report for the year is in your hands and it renders it unnecessary for me to take up much of your time by delivering a lengthy address on this occasion, our Annual General Meeting. Since our last meeting the following members of our profession have died : Edward O'Shaugh- nessy, Waterford; Henry Murphy (formerly Co. Registrar for Monaghan until 1938); Peter Levins Macardle, Dundalk; John Tarrant, Sligo; Frederick W. Gilligan, Dublin; Frederick G. Dickson, Derry and Fahan, Co. Donegal; Robert M. Kieran, Dublin; Harry R. Maunsell, Dublin; Patrick Sarsfield Brady, Dublin; Patrick Howard, Dublin; Robert G. Ball, Limerick and Geo. W. Beaumont, Dublin. Membership of Society I have still to record our disappointment that there remain some solicitors too selfish and too little imbued with the spirit of professional solidarity to join the Society, whose membership ought to coincide in numbers with the admitted and practising membership of the profession. As the Annual Report records, out of a total of 1,391 solicitors on the Roll in these 26 Counties, only 1,092 are members of the Society. Each of us can and should play his part by exhortation and example in removing this reproach upon our body. Non-members should be urged, especially at present, when our profession is menaced by the narrowing margin between our gross takings and the expenses inseparable from earning our living, and also by the efforts being made by members of other professions and callings to take

P. King, J. H. German, Ivan P. Howe, Brendan T. Walsh, W. S. McCullough, Patrick Golden, Mrs. Dorothea M. O'Reilly, Denzil B. J. O'Donnell, T. J. Kirwan, James J. O'Connor. Kevans & Sons, Auditors and Accountants, were reappointed Auditors for the year to end 3Oth April, 1949. Martin; Munster, John J. Dundon; Leinster, Reginald J. Nolan; Connaught, Christopher E. Callan; and that the following had been elected as the 31 ordinary members of the Council having received the number of votes placed after their respective names : Henry St. J.
