The following was among the business transacted : Illness of the President THE Chairman informed the meeting that he was sorry to have to report that the President had been taken ill after a recent meeting of a Committee of the Council and that he would have to remain in a nursing home for some time. It was decided to send a message of sympathy to the President expressing the Council's hope for his speedy recovery.

Lease Costs Query THE opinion of the Council was sought as to the scale of costs applicable to the following lease of business premises in Dublin term, 21 years; consideration, fine of £1,000 and yearly rent of £500.' P.L.V. £175- In the opinion of the Council, having regard to the fine, the rent was not a rack rent, and having regard to the provisions of the Landlord and Tenant Act the lease was for a long term. The costs calculated on the rent should be drawn on the scale applicable to long leases not at a rack rent with the appropriate scale free on the fine. Costs of agreements for short tenancies THE Council considered a report from a Committee on a suggestion that, having regard to the provisions of the Landlord and Tenant Acts, the full scale of costs applicable to leases at rack rents should be charged for agreements for weekly, monthly and other short tenancies, as such agreements now in effect usually create leases for indefinite terms.
