LAND PURCHASE ACTS RULES, 1947 THE Land Purchase Acts Rules, 1947 (S.R. & O., 1947, No. 124), have been published by the Stationery Office and deal with the following matters : (i) Solicitors' Costs ; (i) Distribution of proceeds of sale by the Land Commission of a holding which is subject to a purchase annuity or is sold to realise money due to the Land Commission ; (3) Invest– ments ; (4) Vesting of holdings on re-sale; (5) Office fees. COUNCIL DINNER ON Thursday, 24th April, the President and members of the Council gave a Dinner in the Members' Hall. Owing to the illness of the President, he was unable to preside and Mr. William L. The toast of Ireland was given by the Chairman and honoured. The toast of the Bench and Bar was proposed by Mr. P. R. Boyd. The Hon. the President of the High Court replied on behalf of the Bench and the Attorney General on behalf of the Bar. The toast of the Guests was proposed by Mr. Scan C) hUadhaigh. Mr. F. H. Boland, Capt. W. H. Fyffe and Mr. A. J. Broughton replied to the toast. The toast of the Society was pro– posed by The Hon. Mr. Justice Murnaghan. Mr. William L. Duggan, Vice-President, replied. During the evening orchestral items were performed by Messrs. Reidy, Kelly and Davis and vocal items by Messrs. Robert McCullagh and Sam Joy. SOLICITORS' GOLFING SOCIETY THE Summer Meeting of the Society was held at Mullingar on zgth May, when there was an entry of 59 members including 4 Lady Associates. The weather was perfect and the Mullingar Course in excellent condition for the outing. The Society's Cup and Captain's Prize were won by Mal. Matthews with a score of 71 net. The runner-up was J. P. Shaw with 73 net. The St. Patrick's Plate was won by J. P. MacGeough with 77 net, and the Veterans' Cup by R. E. Felton with 78 net. The Ladies' Prize was won by Miss McCarroll with 78 net. The Captain of the Society (P. Glynn) presided at the Dinner held in the Club House. The Guests were Major Tottenham (Captain of Mullingar Golf Club) and Mr. Duffy, Hon. Secretary, Mullingar
