COMMUNITY CENTER & ICE ARENA UPDATE

Progress continues on the new Shakopee Ice Arena and remodeling at the Community Center. Crews have started laying footings for the new ice arena. The public can expect to start seeing upward construction in the beginning of June. Parking lot expansion continues on the west side of the campus. Inside the Community Center, the fitness equipment was moved to the former teen center. Work is ongoing in the lower level multi-purpose room and meeting room. The upper level will house an indoor playground. Please note, the front entrance has shifted to the ice arena doors. Some Parks & Recreation staff will be relocated this summer to make room for remodeling of the Parks and Recreation office area. Many summer recreational programs were moved to various locations throughout the city. The seniors’ Tuesday and Thursday morning cards and coffee will be housed at Fire Station 1 throughout the summer months. UPCOMING In June, crews will start construction of the new community room and senior lounge along the north side of the building. A grand opening for the senior lounge will be held in September.

Above, site work on the future ice arena location. Below, the former fitness area is being transformed into two levels with multi-purpose space on the bottom level.
