Artist Talk & Opening Reception Friday, June 28 | 6:30−9pm Celebrate art and artists in our summer shows! Exhibiting artist Cindy Mochizuki will talk about her TechLab summer residency in partnership with the Nikkei Museum at 6:30pm. Welcoming remarks and announcement of the ARTS 2019 and Surrey Photography Club award recipients will start at 7:30pm, followed by a reception.

Cindy Mochizuki is our summer artist-in-residence, collecting agricultural stories of Japanese Canadians in the Fraser Valley. Come by our TechLab to see drawings, scripts, and storyboards for her two-channel animated film that will be part of a multimedia installation at Surrey Art Gallery in 2020.

Join our dynamic team of volunteers to enrich visitors’ experiences of contemporary art and your own as well! Volunteer in art classes or day camps where you’ll develop leadership skills, prepare for art projects, supervise students, and assist artist-educators.

A highlight during summers at Surrey Art Gallery is the Arts Council of Surrey’s juried exhibition. Enjoy painting, glasswork, sculpture, photography, and fibre arts by local artists!

SUMMER CAMP & INSTRUCTOR

Katina Giesbrecht Surrey-based artist Katina Giesbrecht has a bachelor’s degree in Applied Design from Kwantlen University and works in a variety of media including drawing, painting, and collage. She specializes in monotype art—a form of printmaking that results in one unique print. Katina enjoys teaching

and draws inspiration from the creative environment. This summer, Katina will be teaching Animals in Art camp for children and The Art of Making Prints camp for tweens. The Art of Making Prints Students will explore a variety of printmaking techniques and processes—monoprints, rubbings, hand-made stamps, relief prints, and more. Then they’ll use their prints in a variety of projects to take home.

Gallery Event Volunteers Do you thrive in dynamic settings engaging with people? Gallery Event volunteers provide support at artist talks, receptions, Family Sundays, and more. Gallery Youth Docent Program Explore contemporary art, hone your presentation skills, develop education programs, and learn to lead. As a Youth Docent, you’ll enhance exhibitions through activities that are both fun and educational.
