But Kelton and Lockett raised some eyebrows when they stuck to their typi- cal rodeo schedule. No panic, no running through arenas dragging rope bags and tucking in shirts. "We like to be able to ride our own horses," Kelton said. "When you fly, you really don't give yourself the best chance that way." Ironically, Lockett has won all his late-season cash aboard younger brother Kyle's roan horse. "After I rode him a couple times I didn't want to give him back, so I kind of had to talk him out of it," he said. Lockett summed up the attitude that,s shoved this team back into the world title hunt. "I just know that each steer's awful important, so I just go at them one at a time, you know? ZJa iffany Ramsev of Findlav, I Ohio, is the recipient of the I 1999 Lane Frost Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship has been awarded to a student each of the past nine years by the Rodeo Cowboy Alumni. Ramsey, 19, attends Findlay High School and has a 3.8 grade-point - average . Her favorite activities are track and rodeo, and she qualified for the 1996 Junior Olympics in the I00- meter dash and javelin. She has competed in pole bending and barrel racing in high school and- at the National High School Finals in Gillette, Wyo. Ramsey plans to attend Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas, and major in secondary educa- tion. Kent Sturman, National High School Rodeo Association secretary and general manager, presented the award to Ramsey. It included a paint- ing of Frost in action. Ramsey said she wasn't expect- ing to have her name called when the $4,000 scholarship was announced. said my name." Ramsey just completed her first semester on the rodeo team at Tarleton State University, and she's thankful to the Rodeo Cowboy Alumni for helping her get to Stephenville . "I've won barrel races and been at the top, but this is the most impor- tant thing that has happened to me,' she said. "I never could've gotten to Tarleton if I didn't win it." Ramsey's long-term goals include competing in the Women's Professional Rodeo Association and the National Finals Rodeo.
