The 1991-92 season saw the Toreros finish with a 14-13 regular-season record and a 14-14 mark following the WCC Post Season Tournament ... included in that record was a season-opening victory over San Diego State University for city bragging rights ... it marked the fifth time in the last six games that the Toreros have captured the City Championship ... USD also placed second in the prestigious Southwest Missouri State Classic with junior forward Gylan Dottin earning All-Tournament honors. ** Four Toreros were honored this past season in the West Coast Conference ranks ... senior forward Kelvin Woods led the way as he was named to the 1992 All-WCC basketball team (it marked the second straight year he was so honored) ... junior forward Gylan Dottin garnered All-WCC Honorable Mention recognition after leading the team in rebounding and finishing second in the scoring department ... senior forward Reed Watson was named WCC Player of the Week (Dec. 23rd) after leading the Toreros to a win over Cal State Northridge with 17 points ... lastly, senior guard Wayman Strickland recaptured his crown as the top three-point shooter in WCC contests, popping in 53.3 percent of his treys last year. *** At the team's end-of-the-season awards banquet, senior forward Kelvin Woods received both the Budweiser Most Valuable Player and Miller-Lite Student-Athlete of the Year awards .. . the two-time All-WCC First Team selectee finished sixth on USD's all-time scoring list with 1,216 points ... he received the school's Sportsman of the Class of 1992 award at the annual Senior Awards Banquet ... senior Michael Brown was honored with the Bugelli Leadership award and junior Geoff Probst was the recipient of the Zable Athletic Excellence award ... also joining Kelvin Woods in the 1,000 Point Club was senior guard Wayman Strickland with 1,040 points -- good for 11th all-time.
