Standard-Metallwerke, Germany, is a specialist in drawing precision and premium tubes in aluminium, copper and brass, with business units for automotive, aerospace, HVAC/R, industry and solar applications. A cool connection

Coaxial tubes allow ◄ ◄

heat exchange between two running liquid media

One of the company’s recent success stories from intensive engineering work is the S-Cooler, a wire-loop finned cooler, which enables a perfect cooling solution at 360° incident airflow. Coaxial tubes as a tube-in-tube system are another innovative development. This solution allows a heat exchange between two independent running liquid media to be used in the field of air conditioning and cooling devices, including automotive applications.

Heat exchanger tubes Sandvik Materials Technology maintains an extensive manufacturing programme for straight heat exchanger tubes to ensure availability on short lead times. Based on popular sizes and material grades, the seamless heat exchanger tube programme covers standard austenitic, duplex and high alloy austenitic stainless steels in addition to titanium and zirconium. Sandvik’s main size range, produced in imperial and metric dimensions, covers 19.05 to 25.4mm, in wall thicknesses from 1.65 to 2.11mm. Available grades include 304L, 316L, 321, 316Ti, Sanicro 228, Sandvik SAF 2205 and Sandvik SAF 2507. Standard straight length for heat exchanger tubes is 6m.

Finned tubes for ◄ ◄ efficient heat exchange

“Maintaining an ongoing manufacturing programme for heat exchanger tubes provides us with the ability to supply customers on short lead times where a small number of tubes are required,” commented Phil Cherrie of Sandvik. “These are often needed at short notice for maintenance work or to carry out repairs to existing heat exchangers where plant downtime can be a significant issue.” The company offers a comprehensive range of heat exchanger tubes sizes and material grades, as part of its extensive manufacturing programme, to suit all types of applications from sea water coolers to oil refineries and from chemical to power generation applications. In addition to straight heat exchanger tubes Sandvik can supply both straight and U-tubes as a project package.

Adapted to market requirements, the company’s finned tubes feature a maximum efficient heat exchange solution. The individually adapted size of ribs support high performance for various applications. Aluminium tubes are predominantly used for these product applications, due to the demand for lightweight systems, and to support a high requirement of stability. The company’s PA12 coated S-Cot tubes provide protection against corrosion, insulation and mechanical impact protection, making themsuitable for use in severe environments. The company has also developed a long- life alloy based on a unique chemical composition for drawn tubes. S-Life is designed to provide high corrosion resistance and outstanding SWAAT- test results.
