Calories: a measure of how much energy is in food; one calorie equals the amount of energy it takes to raise a gram of water one degree Celsius. Carbohydrates: nutrients humans need for energy; sugar, fiber, and starch are all carbohydrates. Chef: someone who cooks for a living. Convert: to change from one unit to another. Culinary: referring to food preparation. Ingredients: the individual foods that go into making a recipe. Nutrients: substances we need for our bodies to work right, and which we must get through food. Nutrition: all the ways we get and eat food. Protein: a nutrient people need for healthy muscles and growth. Recommended daily requirement: the amount of a nutrient scientists tell us we should eat every day. Saturated: filled, containing the largest possible amount. Unsaturated: not filled, able to contain more.
