Background & history lactoferrin

X The existence of lactoferrin was demonstrated in the 1930’s, but isolated first from bovine and human milk in the early 60’s X Lactoferrin (LF) is an iron-binding glycoprotein of mammals X It was originally isolated from milk and later found in all biological fluids, such as tears, blood plasma, sweat, saliva, … etc X LF is a highly concentrated whey protein in human milk X It is the second most abundant whey protein in human colostrum and milk with average concentrations of 7 g/L and 1 g/L, respectively
