towards me, including members of the public, which despite what people think, have the utmost respect for police officers. After much discussion, the fact UK police do not carry guns was something they could not get their heads around. In fact, they found it quite disturbing that we would enter houses and stop cars whilst unarmed. I also made the front page of the Chicago News, with an article entitled ‘Gun Free PD’, which featured my visit and how different the styles of policing were in the respective countries. I have to say that although it was very clear to see that the methods were different the end result was the same - both being able to protect the civilians and bring offenders to justice. This was a trip of a lifetime and one that will stay in my mind forever. The IPA enabled me to participate in this exchange and to that I am truly grateful. I formed some great friendships and this truly showed the spirit of the IPA. Thank you IPA! Gary Watters , Rochdale Branch Do you want to have a similar experience?
