2018 WESSA Annual Review

WESSA Bush Pigs is a well established Environmental Education Centre situated in the foothills of the Waterberg Mountains in Limpopo Province, and has been offering en- vironmental education programmes for over 30 years. The beautiful Waterberg moun- tains provides the backdrop to our 260ha property which offers a variety of landscapes including riverine and mountainous ridges. The area falls within a mixed bushveld which is a subdivision of a Savannah biome. The vi- brant, capable team at Bush Pigs firmly be- lieves that environmental education is the key to encouraging responsible stewardship of the earth among the youth and future generations. This is achieved through expe- riential, hands-on learning, allowing the chil- dren to have fun while being expertly guided by passionate educators who foster a sense of value and appreciation of the Earth.

Thousands of children from all backgrounds and cultures visit Bush Pigs every year, in- cluding neighbouring Botswana. Established in 1987, the centre is proud of an impressive track record, with many “old” schools visiting for more than 25 years. In 2017 we hosted 53 Schools, 216 Teachers and 3 106 learners with 2018 being well on track to exceed these num- bers. At WESSA Bush Pigs, learners enjoy a wide range of environmental education programmes focusing on: Environmental awareness, respon- sibilities and actions; leadership and personal development; and two to five day programmes for small and large groups of all ages. A four- camp rotation system is popular with many schools: • Camp Baboon

• Camp Hedgehog • Camp Crocodile • Camp Gemsbok
