2018 PRCA Media Guide - Xtreme Bulls

What is Xtreme Bulls?

The PRCA Xtreme Bulls Tour showcases the PRCA’s top bull riders and some of the rankest bulls the world has to offer. Xtreme Bulls competitors include the top bull riders from the PRCAWorld Standings as well as contestants who advance through Xtreme Bulls qualifying events. In most Xtreme Bulls events, every contestant competes in the first round, with the top performers advancing to the final round. The winner of the two-head average after the final round earns the title for that Tour stop. (A few Xtreme Bulls events

are one-headers.) Money won on the PRCA Xtreme Bulls Tour counts toward the PRCAWorld Standings for bull riding, which determine the qualifiers for theWrangler National Finals Rodeo, but does not count toward the all-around standings. There were six Division I Xtreme Bulls events in 2017, all webcast live on www.wranglernetwork.com, and 37 Division II events. 2017 season highlights Sage Kimzey added another victory to his ever-growing resume. In July, the reigning four- time world champion earned his second Xtreme Bulls Tour title, with a grand total of $58,657. “It’s pretty special and a pretty hard title to win, so now having two of them is a good feeling for sure,”said the 23-year-old of Strong City, Okla.“I don’t like any time a title doesn’t come home with me. Those are marquee events for the year, and (the Xtreme Bulls Tour) sets you up for success for the season and gets you rolling to where you need to be.” Kimzey also surpassed Matt Austin’s regular-season earnings record from 2005 ($228,386) with his cumulative $237,152 for the 2017 regular season and a total of $436, 479 after winning the world title. “When Matt had it in 2005, it was like he won everything,”Kimzey said.“To beat his record is something I’ve been shooting for since I bought my card, and is tough to do. I’ve had an incredible year and won a bunch of rodeos – it’s been fun.” Kimzey’s regular-season run received a big boost from his X Bulls performances, highlighted by his wins at Fort Worth, Texas Jan. 17-18 and Lovington, N.M., Aug. 8. Kimzey now has five career Xtreme Bulls Division 1 victories: San Antonio in 2014, Ellensburg, Wash., in 2014-15, along with his triumphs at Fort Worth and Lovington. Other 2017 Xtreme Bulls Tour event winners included: •Three cowboys who earned their first Xtreme Bulls Tour Division I victories – Tristan Mize (Fort Mohave, Ariz.), Trey Benton III (Reno, Nev.) and TyWallace (San Antonio, Texas). 2017 Finale highlights The Finale paid eight places with a total of $94,000 in prize money. It began with the Top 40 riders in the Xtreme Bulls Tour standings. •Spears won $39,386; the California cowboy’s 87-point ride on Korkow Rodeos’Bad Romance turned out to be the only qualified ride for the final round, doubling his payout for the round. • By winning the Tour Finale in Ellensburg, Spears broke the record of $32,900 shared by Zack Oakes in Clovis, Calif., in 2004; Matt Austin, in Reno, Nev., 2004; and Zack Brown, Ellensburg, Wash., 2003 •Tristan Mize scored 90 points on Big Stone, Moreno & Growney Rodeo’s Mortimer.
