Athenry News & Views Spring 2026
Spring 2026
The children in the senior end completed their Cycle Right training. A big thank you to Richard from Cycling Ireland and Galway County Council and An Taisce for their much-appreciated funding towards this course. The children of Esker will be much safer as they continue to use their bikes on our roads. Tying in nicely with this course was our Green School Initiative, as part of our Travel Flag. As part of our commitment to a greener future, we held a Sustainable Travel Day on February 10th. The goal of this day was simple: to show how we can save CO2 by swapping 4 wheels for 2! To celebrate, we invited the children to BLING THEIR RIDE with a focus on the environment. The children had to decorate their bikes or scooters and helmets creatively using recycled materials to promote sustainable travel. We held a ‘Bling and Bright Parade’ on the school play yard to showcase our work. We looked for: ‘The Green Machine’ (best use of recycled materials) ‘The Glow Getter’ (most reflective design for safety) Cycle Right and Sustainable Travel at Esker N.S.
