Athenry News & Views

Plans for a long-awaited GaelCampus in Athenry have moved a step closer to delivery, with Coláiste an Eachréidh confirmed as one of 105 school building projects approved to progress to tender or construction under the Government’s National Development Plan. The proposed campus, which will provide a permanent home for both Coláiste an Eachréidh and Gaelscoil Riada, has been a longstanding objective for Irish-medium education in the area. If advanced as planned, construction would take place on the site located opposite the existing school facilities. The announcement places the project among a select group of education developments nationwide scheduled to move into the next phase of delivery, signalling increased certainty around timelines after years of planning and advocacy. While no construction start date has yet been confirmed, the progression to tender represents a significant milestone for the Athenry school community and for the future of Irish-language education in the area.
