Athenry News & Views Spring 2026
Spring 2026
Date for the diary: Wednesday, 25 March Talk: Unearthing the Attymon Hoard
Our next talk is another fascinating local one, “Unearthing the Attymon Hoard”, thanks to Ciaran Cannon. Join Kiltullagh Killimordaly Heritage Society on Wednesday, 25 March 2026, as we dig beneath the surface and uncover the story of the Attymon Hoard. The talk begins at 7.30pm in the Kiltullagh Community Hub, opposite Kiltullagh Church, Athenry, Co. Galway. Free for members. €5 for non‑members. Everyone is welcome.
Field Names Project The names of the fields around Kiltullagh Killimordaly are an important part of our shared local heritage. They connect us to the landscape around us and carry the stories, language, and memories of the people who lived here before us. Unfortunately, many of these field names are now at risk of being lost as land changes ownership and as older generations pass on. In many cases, they survive only through oral tradition and are known by just a few people. This project will take a community‑led approach to collecting, recording, and preserving the traditional field names and local features of Kiltullagh Killimordaly. By drawing on local knowledge, oral traditions, and archival material, we aim to create a lasting digital and printed resource that future generations can enjoy and learn from. We have maps and record sheets available, and you can contact us at kkheritage@outlook.ie
