Record Numbers for Fields of Athenry 10K

St. Stephen’s Day 2025 dawned fresh and crisp over the Fields of Athenry, providing ideal conditions for this year’s 10KM race. With close to 3,000 entries and an incredible 2,400 runners on the start line opposite the train station, this was a record-breaking edition of the event and one to remember. From early morning, the town was buzzing as spectators lined the streets, creating a fantastic atmosphere for runners tackling the traditional one-loop course. Volunteers and marshals ensured the race ran smoothly, offering encouragement at every turn and showcasing the incredible community spirit that defines this event. Race Highlights At the front of the race, Jamie Fallon (Craughwell AC) claimed back-to-back victories in an impressive 30:34. Luke Johnson (Moy Valley AC) and Karl Fitzmaurice (Shannon AC) completed the men’s podium. The women’s race was equally exciting, with 19-year old Ava Crean (Back 2 Boston) crossing the line in 33:40 — a remarkable performance currently under review as a potential course record. Deirdre Grady (Ennis AC) and Maebh Brannigan (Galway City Harriers) rounded out the podium places. Corporate Cup & Race Support The Corporate Cup, kindly sponsored by The Castle Group, was won by Boston Scientific, while this year’s navy race hat proved hugely popular among participants. Under the guidance of Race Director Maeve Noone and a dedicated race committee — supported by countless volunteers and sponsors, especially main sponsor Kare Plus — the 2025 event was a tremendous success.Photos from the day can be viewed via James O’Connor on Flickr.Entries for the 2026 race are now open at:www.athenry10k.com Join Athenry AC Athenry AC continues to welcome new members to our senior club.
