CHINOISERIE MID 18 TH CENTURY
Pagoda Hand made in sheet brass, and brass “bamboo” tube. Finished in antique french gold, with hand painted details. Other colours/finishes can be specified. “Architectural Tutor” to the future King George III, Sir William Chambers (1726-1796) set off on an expedition to Canton in search of inspiration for his work. The resulting drawings brought “Chinoiserie” to the forefront of fashion in Europe, and resulted in a commission to build the Pagoda at Kew Gardens. The lanterns in this range are a homage to his work.
