Characteristics of Work: The Director of Instructional Design and Development is a full-time position within the Division for eLearning and Instructional Technology and reports to the Assistant Executive Director for eLearning and Instructional Technology. The position will provide direct leadership to the Instructional Design and Development Specialist. The incumbent is responsible for overall planning and leadership for training, professional development, and instructional design in all facets of teaching and learning as it relates to eLearning and Instructional Technology. The incumbent will oversee all planning, reporting, assessing, and evaluating training and professional development activities in a manner that assures quality results. The incumbent must be self-motivated and must exercise sound, independent judgment in a dynamic environment with conflicting priorities requiring a high degree of teamwork, flexibility, discretion, diplomacy, and tact. Examples of Work: The following examples are intended only as illustrations of the various tasks performed by the incumbent in this position. These examples are not meant to be exhaustive; they are representative of the general functions of this position. 1. Provide overall vision and leadership as it relates to training, instructional design and professional development activities for the Division of eLearning and Instructional Technology. a. Lead the MSVCC Training Committee in the development of all training and professional development activities. b. Lead the MCCB staff to coordinate all training and professional development activities. c. Work closely with the Chief eLearning Officers to the 15 community colleges in order to offer training and professional development that is research-based, relevant, and useful. 2. Maintain a broad understanding of current and emerging issues in higher education as it relates to eLearning, distance education, instructional design, and instructional technology. 3. Provide direction and assistance in the design, develop and deliver training as it relates to online teaching and learning, current and emerging technologies, pedagogy, best practices, adopted instructional applications and tools in individualized settings, small groups, workshop, webinars, and courses (F2F/online). 4. Coordinate training and professional development as it relates to adopted technologies and services utilized by the MSVCC eLearning Association and the ELITE Institute 5. Direct and manage all training and professional development activities for the MSVCC eLearning Association, MCCB, and ELITE Institute. 6. Oversee the development and/or acquisition of curriculum for the ELITE Institute 7. Oversee the attendance, moderation, and evaluation of all training and professional development activities including but not limited to webinars, courses, workshops, and conferences 8. Design and develop instructional materials, graphic designs, marketing pieces, and publications, for use by the Division 9. Assists in the development of a graphic identity standards style guide for continuity of brand awareness 10. Assists with the creation of a marketing and recruitment strategy that aligns with the vision and mission of the Division 11. Oversee the documentation of professional development data for the MCCB, MSVCC, and ELITE Institute 12. Lead and assist quality assurance reviews to determine that established standards are being followed. 13. Supervise MSVCC instructional design and quality assurance projects 14. Serve as MCCB resource person for MSVCC eLearning Association committees 15. Promotes the eLearning and Instructional Technology Division by attending business and industry events, community events, career fairs, higher education institutions, and other events relevant to programs and services offered by the Division. 16. Represents the agency through oral and written communications and reports. 17. Performs other duties as assigned.
