DIRECTOR FOR MISSISSIPPI APPRENTICE PROGRAM AND BUSINESS ENGAGEMENT

Characteristics of Work: This position reports directly to the Assistant Executive Director for Workforce and Economic Development. The Director for Mississippi Apprentice Program and Business Engagement must establish and maintain effective communication and collaboration with the 15 community and junior college workforce areas. The incumbent will be responsible for apprenticeship project management, oversight, and approval in a manner that assures the best use of resources and compliance with MCCB policy and state law. This position maintains communication with employers and community colleges participating in the Mississippi Apprenticeship Program (MAP). The incumbent will serve as a liaison and technical expert between community colleges, employers, and MAP partnering agencies by providing assistance in apprenticeship registration, retention, and supportive services.

Examples of Work:

The following examples are intended only as illustrations of the various tasks performed by the incumbent in this position. These examples are not meant to be exhaustive; they are representative of the general functions of this position.

1. Directs, plans, and provides oversight of MAP registered apprenticeship business outreach activities: a. Supervision of Apprenticeship Business Consultants and their work b. Partnerships with intermediaries in targeted sectors of focus c. Relationships with statewide industry associations d. Partnerships with local economic development and workforce development boards e. Assistance to colleges and employers in registering as RA sponsors 2. Serves as the chair of the MAP Business Engagement Committee; 3. Coordinates marketing and promotion campaigns and other visibility events to be sponsored by MAP; 4. Develops and/or maintains thorough working knowledge of all levels of state and federal statutes and related guidelines pertaining to the operation of Registered Apprenticeship programs; 5. Conducts project planning activities and meetings and coordinates participant outreach activities with student navigators 6. Plans and conducts MAP training and technical assistance capacity building activities; 7. Serves on the MAP Interagency Apprenticeship Team (ITA) and MAP Planning Council (MPC); 8. Utilizes and enhances the data management system for the completion of MAP progress reports and other information dissemination materials; 9. Works collaboratively with the USDOL Office of Apprenticeship to develop and support RA programs, and 10. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

A bachelor's degree in business, economic development, workforce development, or human resources from an accredited college or university with a minimum of four years related experience. Related experience and/or education may be substituted equally.

Additional Comments:

This is a full-time, temporary grant position located at the Mississippi Community College Board.
