Characteristics of Work:

The Early Childhood Academy Director, Programs and Innovation is a full-time administrative position. The Academy collaborates with the MCCB’s Offices of Career and Technical and Workforce Education, the fifteen community and junior colleges, the Mississippi Department of Human Services, and child care providers to ensure that Mississippi’s family-based unified and integrated early childhood system connects and integrates resources and services for both parents/caregivers and their children. The Office is also responsible for establishing an Early Childhood Academy (ECA) with a Resource and Referral Center (R & R) at participating community colleges to deliver professional development for all centers, delivering and managing technical assistance and coaching, and providing leadership to the Resource and Referral Network offices. The incumbent must be self-motivated and must exercise sound, independent judgment in a dynamic environment with conflicting priorities requiring a high degree of teamwork, flexibility, discretion, diplomacy, and tact. Work is subject to review by the Assistant Executive Director of Early Childhood Academy, to whom the incumbent is responsible.

Examples of Work:

The following examples are intended only as illustrations of the various tasks performed by the incumbent in this position. These examples are not meant to be exhaustive; they are representative of the general functions of this position.

1. Assist the Assistant Executive Director of Early Childhood Academy with providing leadership and support to the Early Childhood Academy initiative, to include assisting with designing policies and procedures to efficiently manage operation of the program. 2. Maintain a working knowledge of the Family Based Unified and Integrated Early Childhood System. 3. Research and evaluate curricula, programs and activities related to child care education. 4. Collect program data and produce reports to constituents to examine how programs and activities are implemented and performing. 5. Provide technical assistance for curricula and program development, to include the establishment and implementation of a coaching model to be followed by Coach and Professional Development Specialist. 6. Maintain a broad understanding of current and emerging issues in child care, particularly as they relate to compliance and eligibility criteria for meeting federal and state standards; and prepare to communicate those issues to agency staff and child care providers, parents, and children. 7. Assist with the organization of and manage professional development for all child care centers. 8. Ensures process and compliance at each Resource and Referral Centers. 9. Facilitate provider’s self-assessment and assist with helping child care providers’ transition from standard centers comprehensive centers. 10. Monitor existing comprehensive centers and ensure they maintain compliance. 11. Administer personnel functions including recruitment, selection, and training; and supervise the activities of all Early Childhood Academy staff. 12. Conduct site visits as needed to evaluate effectiveness and compliance with staff and program; and establish/maintain relationships with state agencies and constituents. 13. Provide other support necessary for program participants to be successful in transitioning from Pre-K to K-12. 14. Perform other Agency related duties as needed and assigned by Assistant Executive Director of Early Childhood Academy.
