Grants Accountant/Benefits Coordinator

Characteristics of Work:

The individual in the Grants Accountant/Benefits Coordinator position is responsible for financial matters relating to federal, state, and/ or private grant programs and benefits that are administered by the Mississippi Community College Board. The position is responsible for preparing and communicating financial information to be shared both internally and externally. The position requires the application of financial management policies which include a sound knowledge of fund accounting, grant accounting, and the ongoing implementation of generally accepted accounting principles.

Adult Basic Education Federally Funded Salary: Adult Education – 69% Proprietary – 31% *Monthly estimated time

1. Communicates with Subgrantees of federal/state/private funds; 2. Performs accounting and budgeting functions for federal/state/private grants; 3. Prepares federal and state reports related to federal grants; 4. Develops, prepares, revises and/or maintains a variety of accounting, budgeting, and financial reports required by the external funding sources; 5. Collects, compiles and analyzes financial data; 6. Reviews financial statements of proprietary schools and colleges applying or renewing registration; 7. Keeps MCCB staff informed with information regarding state health insurance, state life insurance, public employees retirement system, and deferred compensation of Mississippi; 8. Enters employee life and health insurance information into SPAHRS and into Enroll Blue; 9. Serves as the agency’s benefits coordinator, which includes cafeteria plan, health and life insurance policies, supplemental policies, deferred compensation and PERS membership; 10. Ensures agency’s compliance with Section 125 plan; 11. Provides support to the MACJC Human Resource Officers Association; 12. Serves as the agency wellness coordinator; 13. Serves as the agency telecommunications coordinator; 14. Reviews the Transparency Website monthly and notifies colleges of possible missing information; 15. Prepares indirect cost payments quarterly; 16. Enters the time and attendance of each employee into SPAHRS on a monthly basis; 17. Prepares electronic deposit of GED payments daily; 18. Prepares monthly reconciliations; 19. Assists in the Mississippi Budget Request (MBR) budget preparation for the Agency; 20. Assists in enrollment audits of community and junior colleges; 21. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

A bachelor’s degree in accounting from an accredited college or university, and two years professional work experience in accounting.
