More than 30 museums and historical treasures in the city provide knowledge, teaching and entertainment . Its historic centre is full of treasures, such as the Cathedral with the Chapel that houses the Holy Chalice and the frescos of the Church of San Nicolás, also known as the “Valencian Sistine Chapel”, which are part of the rich cultural heritage of the city, which is also home to tourist attractions that have been declared Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The Silk Exchange, the Water Tribunal and the Fallas. A walk round the historic centre transports us back to 14th and 15th century architecture, when the Gothic style flourished in unique buildings such as the Cathedral, the Palau de la Generalitat, the Silk Exchange, the Palace of the Borgias and the Serranos Towers. After this “Golden Age” came a time of crisis and the Baroque style prevailed, with examples such as the National Museum of Ceramics and Antonio Palomino’s frescos in the Basílica de los Desamparados. Industrial development led to the city’s growth and the introduction of Modernism , which left a number of buildings for posterity including Colón Market, Central Market, North Station and Palacio de la Exposición, as well as private buildings such as Casa Chapa, Casa Ferrer and Casa Ortega.
