Language and Math Connections: Many of the multiplications situations in this lesson involve the phrases times as many or times as much. To reinforce understanding, use counters or drawings to set up a situation like the one shown below. Ask students to describe what is shown using the phrase times as many.
Pose a different situation times as much and have students work with a partner to model the situation using the two color counters. 3-9 Enrichment: Be a Critic 3-9 STEM Activity: Our Water Footprint. Complete independently, then switch with a classmate to practice critiquing the reasoning of others. Partners can work together to reach a consensus for question #3.

Emphasize how humans can balance everyday needs (agriculture, industry, and energy) while conserving Earth’s environments and resources.
