Lauds an individual who has demonstrated outstanding leadership and contributions to the advancement of the IIW as an organisation.

Dr Damian J. Kotecki (USA) was awarded a doctorate in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Metallurgical Engineering by the University of Wisconsin, Madison in 1970. His professional career was mainly devoted to research and development in welding filler metals at Teledyne McKay and then at The Lincoln Electric Company. He held various offices in the American Welding Society (AWS) including President 2005-2006, and is a Fellow of AWS. He was US Delegate to ISO/TC 44/SC 3 Welding Consumables from 1987 to 2005. Kotecki joined IIW Commission II Arc Welding and Filler Metals in 1978 and served as Chair from 1990 to 2003, continuing to participate to the present. He was active in Sub- commission IX-H Weldability of Stainless Steels and Nickel-base Alloys as well over the same time period. He served on the IIW Board of Directors as Member, Vice President, and then Treasurer and is a Fellow of IIW. Throughout his 40 years of involvement with IIW, Kotecki has actively demonstrated his commitment to the Mission and Goals of IIW through numerous roles at all levels of governance and strategic development. His discerning and collaborative approach has helped to advance the Institute in many spheres, while his convivial persona- lity has enriched all aspects of his work.
