MERIT BADGE SUMMER PROGRAMS Scouting America (BSA) is a national youth (ages 11 – 17) program offering activities to promote physical fitness and citi zenship. Merit badges offer co-ed youth the chance to learn new skills and a chance to understand the world. Courses are taught by a BSA Merit Badge Counselor who will supply all materials and the blue card to indicate completion or partiality of the requirement. Youth need not be a Scout to participate in these courses for fun learning for themselves and about BSA. CITIZENSHIP IN THE COMMUNITY – Instructor: Lisa Bass Location: Recreation Center – Classroom 1 Minimum: 3 Maximum: 8 Additional Information: Living in a community means more than residence. In order to be productive citizens, Scouts need to learn more about their neighborhoods, towns and counties as well as become involved in the governments and organizations within those borders. This is an Eagle-required Merit Badge. Partial until completed 8 hours of service in the community. Registration Eligibility Date Time TR/NR April 1 – May 26 Ages 11 - 17 Tuesday, June 2 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. $15/$25 CITIZENSHIP IN THE WORLD – Instructor: Lisa Bass Location: Recreation Center – Classroom 1 Minimum: 3 Maximum: 8 Additional Information: Discover how youth are already citizens of the world and that success as a world citizen depends on one’s willingness to understand and appreciate the values, traditions, and concerns of people in other countries. This is an Eagle-required Merit Badge. Registration Eligibility Date Time TR/NR April 1 – May 26 Ages 11 - 17 Tuesday, June 2 1 – 4 p.m. $15/$25 COMMUNICATION – Instructor: Lisa Bass Location: Recreation Center – Classroom 1 Minimum: 3 Maximum: 8 Additional Information: The ways that we communicate help our ideas grow and relationships stay strong. Learn the many methods of communication, the etiquette and steps in getting your message clearly shared. In-class projects will include making a commercial, teaching a skill, making introductions, writing a letter to the editor and a 5-minute speech. This is an Eagle-required Merit Badge. Registration Eligibility Date Time TR/NR April 1 – May 26 Ages 11-17 Wednesday, June 3 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. $25/$35 Additional Information: Caring for injured or ill people until they can receive professional medical care is an important skill for every youth. Learn the steps to recognize life-threatening conditions, how to prepare a first aid kit, use as AED and more. This is an Eagle-required Merit Badge. After all, it is best to be prepared for any thing! Being aware of your surroundings and practicing drills can be beneficial to your and others’ safety. This is an Eagle-re quired Merit Badge.
