Lesson 6 - Working with Indexes
If there are a limited number of different values in a field, then indexing the field does not noticeably speed up searches and sorts. In fact, it may slow down data entry and editing.
Procedures
1. Open the desired table in Design view.
2. On the Design tab in the Show/Hide group click the Indexes button .

From the Student Data directory, open INDEX1.ACCDB . View indexes for a table.
Open the Customers table in Design view.

1. On the Design tab in the Show/Hide group click the Indexes button. The Indexes dialog box appears.

Close the Indexes dialog box and the Customers table.

Discussion
Index at least one field for each table to maximize performance. Select a field you are likely to use in searches and sorts.
When you change a field Indexed property to Yes , you can choose whether to allow duplicates. If you choose the No Duplicates option, Access will not allow duplicate values to be entered into the field.
