Saco River Community Television Annual Report - Town of Buxton

For over 16 years, Saco River Community Television has been providing the citizens of Buxton with production training, free equipment rentals, television studio access, volunteer and staff coverage of community events, online streaming services and town meeting support. The Town of Buxton is very fortunate to have three local peg (public, education and government channels) providing local cable subscribers with access to town meetings, a community bulletin board and SAD 6 school board meeting coverage. SRC-TV’s local cable access channels are paid for by cable subscribers. For a minimal price, Buxton’s citizens are provided are with the opportunity to learn basic location studio and location video production skills at our Plains Road station. We will be partnering with Bonny Eagle Adult Education in the fall of 2017 to offer a basic introductory video production course for beginners. Our resources and services are available to Buxton residents regardless of whether or not they subscribe to cable television. The equipment we offer local people includes high definition video cameras, tripods, lights, 3 Adobe premiere editing systems, a wide array of audio equipment, projectors and a public address system. The only “catch” is the equipment must be used to support and promote community purposes. We also employ a skilled Media Specialist (David Blais) who specializes in audio engineering, photography and Photoshop. Recent examples of community uses of our equipment and studio include a talk program called Remembering Rogers Fiber, coverage of the Bar Mills Bridge Ceremony and several other informative and well received community focused programs created and produced in collaboration with the Buxton – Hollis Historical Society. SRC-TV was very proud to be recognized by the BHHS for “Excellence in Community History Programming” at the organization’s annual meeting in October, 2016. More collaborations are underway including a detailed history of Bar Mills Village. We encourage the citizens of Buxton to utilize our studio and rent our no-cost equipment to record and edit events of local interest for cable television as well as the internet. Churches, civic groups, non- profits and individuals committed to the common goal of promoting community are especially welcome. We are also archiving hundreds of town meeting online and doing our best to stay on top of technology trends. To that end, SRC-TV has taken our first steps toward offering “Livestreaming” a technology that would allow for broadcasts from unconventional meeting sites like local Fire Departments and churches, among other places. The people of Buxton and the surrounding towns recognize and appreciate the value of relevant local news stories. Saco River Community Television is proud of the role we continue to play in promoting local people, places and events. At a troubling time in our history when “fake news” is becoming the new norm, authentic, grass roots information sources like SRC-TV are more important than ever.
