Research collaboration

Xtera ® has transmitted 74.38Tb per second over a transatlantic distance using single mode fiber. The experiment, carried out in collaboration with University College London (UCL), used a hybrid distributed-Raman/EDFA amplifier with 91nm bandwidth, an adaptation of the technology currently deployed in Xtera’s subsea repeaters. The result was described as “record breaking”, demonstrating spectral efficiency of 6.86b/s/Hz over 6,300km across the C and L bands.

The Beta LaserMike brand has been faithfully serving the wire and cable industry for over 50 years and we have thousands of satisfied customers that rely on our measurement systems every day to improve quality, increase productivity and deliver manufacturing savings. We are committed to your success. Precision Measurement & Control Solutions Increasing the bandwidth is the best way to get more capacity from a given fiber, and the combination of a C-band and an L-band amplifier has been used commercially to achieve bandwidths of approximately 70nm, but Raman amplification can offer even greater bandwidth with very low noise. The experiment was performed on a recirculating loop composed of nine spans, each with 70km of single mode fiber.
