valid. The value can be read, printed or exported through a LAN. The operator may now remove the equipment to restart the production line.

AESA, a Swiss company that continuously innovates in cable quality metrology, will take the opportunity to explain how to make savings in measuring linear resistance directly on-line with ResTest 8135. The operator temporarily stops the production line, and positions and adjusts the equipment towards the rope, then tightens the jaws to centre the rope, clamps the hydraulic jaws and closes the cover. The hydraulic clamping system allows high pressure to be applied on the cable, ensuring optimal contact between the cable wires. The equipment measures the rope temperature, and the heating elements enable the whole area surrounding the measurement to be brought up to the temperature of the conductor. The equipment induces a current in the conductor and measures the difference of potential over a pre-determined length. The resistance is calculated from the voltage to current ratio. The built- in probe measures the temperature of the conductor to display the corrected result in relation to the chosen nominal temperature. After a few minutes, the temperature is stabilised. A signal notifies the operator that the displayed measuring value is

S S The ResTest 8135 from AESA Cortaillod

The high cost of copper (and/or aluminium) makes it important to use it as economically as possible in cables. ResTest 8135 enables raw material savings through definition of the security margin of the production machinery. In practice it is quite usual to produce conductors which have 2-5 per cent surplus material, simply because of lack of any means of control. With ResTest 8135, a return on investment is possible in less than one year.
