Wire preheating Beta LaserMike preheaters from NDC Technologies provide uniform, in-process wire heating to eliminate insulation voids in primary cables. When a wire is preheated for only fractions of a second by a low frequency (50/60Hz) heat cycle, the heat is unevenly applied to thewire and results in hot and cold spots. Beta LaserMike preheaters are designed to solve the problem by using high frequency preheating that applies optimum heat cycles to the wire as it passes through the preheater. This ensures a linear and consistent heating along the length of the wire, regardless of speed, to meet specific temperature requirements. Beta LaserMike reheaters can be equipped with the new TempTrac Pro non-contact temperature measurement system for high accuracy monitoring and control of preheat temperatures. The TempTrac Pro sensor measures the preheat temperature of wire and cable with high accuracy. It can measure wire diameters from 0.28mm to 2.8mm. The TempTrac Pro controller closes the loop to improve process efficiency while minimizing waste. It can be provided as a stand-alone system or integrated with the Beta LaserMike preheater system.

Early warning cable Leuze Electronic has launched its “intelligent” Smart Core cable for use in moving cables. Designed specifically for Industry 4.0 applications, the Smart Core cable provides a predictive maintenance measure in applications such as handling or welding robots that necessitate moving cables. The new cable includes an additional, sacrificial wire that fails after approximately 80 percent of the cable’s lifecycle. The sacrificial wire is bridged with the supply voltage, and when the core breaks it gives an early warning of the nearing end of the cable’s service life. Not only does this help to prevent unplanned downtime, but it increases system availability by predicting downtime and allowing for scheduled maintenance. Skew matched cables Fairview Microwave Inc, a provider of on- demand RF and microwave components, has expanded its line of skew matched cable pairs to include 40GHz and 67GHz versions, suitable for the development of high data rate digital systems.
