was the third player to be named to the PCSC Second Team All-Conference as well as being named to the Commissioner's Honor Roll for academic excellence. CathyWineinger earned PCSC Honorable Mention and PCSC Commissioner's Honors as well as being named the team Rookie of the Year. Other athletes to earn Commissioner's Honor Roll include: Carey Casciola, Taryn Keenan, Alyssa Luna, Alyssa Schott, and Kaslin Tucker. Celeste Soto was named the team Best Defen– sive Player and the Coaches Award for attitude, effort, and heart was given to Taylor Lawrence. TheToreros lost seniors Kasi in Tucker, Lindsey Fleet, and Katie Jo Nelson, all of whom were starters for the 2009 Torero team. Coach McElvain, in her 9th season, will look to reach the 1SO-win milestone this season. The coaching staff brought in seven freshmen this year. The new faces include Mickell Escobar, Chelsea Kamai, Kimberlee Shimizu, Allison Stalberger, Lauren Tomey, Chelsea Velovich, and Kierstie Svatos. These players will join the roster that includes six seniors, three juniors and three sophomores to give them a total of 20 players. The Toreros begin the 2010 campaign at home hosting Boise State and UC Riverside on February 13th. They will travel up to UC Riverside the next day to wrap up the two-day series facing the Broncos and the Highlanders again. The team will then head to the UNLV Tournament where they will play five games from February 19-21. They will take on opponents BYU, UNLV, Boise St., Hawaii and Oregon.

The University of San Diego softball team is enter– ing a new era in the Pacific Coast Softball Confer– ence. In the 2010 season there are two divisions of six teams, with the winner of each division facing off in a playoff series for the automatic bid to the post season. The Toreros had a solid 2009 campaign with records broken and players highlighted for their strong performance. Despite graduating key players last season, Head Coach Melissa McElvain and her staff have been hard at work signing some solid recruits to the Torero roster.

In 2009, the Toreros faced a strong non-conference schedule including two ranked teams. They faced six teams during the season that fought in the early rounds of the post season (Long Beach State, San Di– ego State, Missouri, UCLA, Miami-Ohio, and Portland State), with Missouri advancing to the Women's Col– lege World Series. San Diego finished in third place in the PCSC, their best finish in program history. The team also reached another milestone earning 11 PCSC victories. USO had four players earn PCSC Honors for their play on the field and nine athletes earn Commission– er's Honors for their work in the classroom. Lindsey Fleet was named to the PCSC All-Conference Second Team, earned Commissioner's Honors, and team Best Offensive Player award. Jennifer Ellenbeck earned PCSC Second Team All-Conference honors, was named to the Commissioner's Honor Roll, and selected by the team as the Most Valuable Player and given the Community Service Award. The Toreros wi II spend the next two weeks preparing for the San Diego Classic I. Once again it will be five games for the To– reros in the three days starting on March 5th. The Toreros will play Buffa lo, Wisconsin, Oregon, Cal Poly and Long Beach State.

Tournament the Toreros will play a double header with Northern Il– linois at home on March 10th. The Long Beach StateTournament that begins on March 12th and ends on the 14th will include opponents Notre Dame, Buffalo, Purdue, UNLV and Long Beach State. The Toreros continue their strong non-conference schedule on March 17th by hosting a double header against North Dakota. They will then co-host the San Diego Classic II that takes place from March 18-21. The Toreros will face Harvard, Massachusetts, Illinois– Chicago, Kansas, and Oregon State during this four-day tournament. On March 21st, the softball team will continue their tradition of Military Appreciation Day honor– ing our local military. The Toreros will finish off their non-conference schedule by host– ing a double header with Santa Barbara on March 23rd and then playing a home and home series with cross-town rival San Diego State on April 2-3. USO will open PCSC play on April 10-11 when they travel to Moraga to take on Saint Mary's. They return to the confines of the USO Softball Complex to host Sacramento State the following weekend. The Toreros will then make their final road trip of the regular season when they face Cal State Bakersfield on April 24-25. The regular season will conclude with two home series against con– ference rivals Loyola Marymount University on May 1-2 and Santa Clara on May 8-9.

PCSC Announces Expansion With Six Schools Set To Join Conference

The PCSC Coastal Division consists of six ~ schools based in California. San Diego, Loyola UJ Marymount, Sacramento State, Saint Mary's, LL and Santa Clara are all part of the original z PCSC. Cal State Bakersfield joins the Coastal O Division as part of the PCSC expansion. u

PORTLAND, Ore. - The Pacific Coast Soft– ball Conference has extended invitations for conference membership to six schools: Cali– fornia State University Bakersfield, Idaho State University, University of Northern Colorado, Seattle University, Utah Valley University and Weber State University, PCSC Commissioner Wendy Guthrie announced in Fall of 2008. "Really the most positive thing it does for us is it protectsour conference;'commented head coach Melissa McElvain. "It adds a higher level of competition for us and we know that we're protected long term as a very strong competitive conference in dif– ferent regions." Starting with the 2010 season, the PCSC will split into two divisions, the Coastal and Mountain. The division winners will meet in a best-of-three championship series to determine the conference's automatic NCAA Tournament berth. "We are delighted to welcome California State University, Bakersfield, Idaho State University, University of Northern Colorado, Seattle University, Utah Valley University, and Weber State University as members of the Pacific Coast Softball Conference;' Guthrie said."The addition ofaconference champion– ship series will enhance the student-athlete experience and heighten the visibility of the league:· Cal State Bakersfield is in its third year of a five-year transition period from NCAA Division II to NCAA Division I membership.

The Road runners will become a fu ll NCAA Division I member in the 2010-11 academic year. Idaho State resurrected softball for the 2007 season, after sponsoring the sport from 1976-1983. Northern Colorado is currently com– peting as a NCAA Division I Independent. The Bears are members of the Big Sky Conference in other sports. Seattle went 38-14 last spring in its final year at the NCAA Division II level, reaching the NCAA Division II West Regional for the third straight season. The Redhawks will play as a NCAA Division I provisional member in 2009. Utah Valley also competes as a NCAA Division I softball independent and is in its sixth and final year of NCAA Division I provisional membership status. Weber State reinstated its softball program in December 2007 and will be– gin play in 2010. The Wildcats sponsored softball from 1974-1983. The PCSC completed its sixth year of competition in 2008 and has had an automatic NCAA Tournament bid for its conference champion since 2006. Loyola Marymount has won three PCSC titles, 2003, 2005 and 2007. Santa Clara, 2004, Portland State, 2006, and Sacramento State, 2008, have also won conference championships.

Prior to joining the WCC, Moore was the Programs and Project Coordina– tor at San Jose State from August 2005-October 2006. She helped in the redesign and launch of the athletic department's new web site and served as the tournament manager for the 2007 NCAA Men's Basketball West Regional. Moore graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering from Georgia Tech in May 2001. As the former Ellen Styer, she was a four-year letter winner for the Yellow Jacket softball team from 1998-2001. In 2001, she served as team captain and earned Academic All-Atlantic Coast Confer– ence Honor Roll honors in 2001. Moore also still holds the school single-season record for fielding assists with 153 in 1999, while playing second base and shortstop. Cal State Bakersfield, Idaho State, Northern Colorado, Seattle, Utah Val– ley and Weber State will play its first season in the PCSC in 2010.

Ellen Moore has been named the

new commissioner of the Pacific Coast Softball Conference, PCSC President Mark Orr announced Monday. Moore becomes the PCSC's second commis– sioner, replacing Wendy Guthrie, who served in the post since the confer– ence started play in 2003. "We are extremely pleased to an– nounce the hiring of Ellen as the new commissioner of the Pacific Coast Softball Conference;' said Orr, who is also the Director of Athletics at Saint Mary's. "Ellen has gained significant experience in conference admin– istration, and was an outstanding student-athlete in the sport of softball at Georgia Tech'.' In her previous position as the Direc– tor of Championships at the wee, she coordinates five annual wee Championships, including the men's and women's basketball tourna– ments. Moore comes to the PCSC as the conference is set to expand to a two-division, 12-team format for the 2010 season. HEAD COACH 9TH SEASON

Melissa McElvain enters her ninth year as USD's Head Softball Coach. In her first eight seasons as head coach, 28 athletes have earned PCSC All-Conference honors, including the 2004 (Rebekah Bradford) and 2007 (Jennifer Ellenbeck) PCSC Freshman of the Year and the 2006 PCSC Scholar Athlete of the Year (Sara Mason). Un– der McElvain's guidance, 53 student– athletes have earned All-Academic honors, including 36 student-athletes awarded PCSC Commissioner's Honor Roll honors, one PCSC Scholar Athlete of the Year, and a National Academic All-American 3rd Team (Sara Mason). Since the 2005-06 season, McElvain and the team have upheld a 100% NCAA academic progress rating. In 2009... San Diego had a successful campain in 2009 with three 2nd Team All-Con– ference winners, one honorable men– tion recipient, and nine players named to the Commissioner's Honor Roll for academic excellence. San Diego had their best finish in the program's histo– ry taking third place reaching another milestone with 11 conference victories. Collegiate Athletic Association three times, and was the CCAA Most Valuable Player her senior season after leading the league with a .411 batting average, third-best in school history. She was also named to the All-West Region Second Team. Aggabao finished her career at UCSD hitting .312 and is among the all time career leaders in six different categories. She also set the Triton record for most doubles in a season with 23. Off the field, Aggabao was a representative in the Triton Athletes Council, an organization that serves as a forum aiming to improve the quality of student– athletes' collegiate experience. Originally from Walnut, California, she is the daughter of Tony and Dolly Aggabao. She also has one older brother, Anthony, and a younger sister, Tricia, who graduated in 2008 from Stanford and played on the softball team.

Ramos is currently employed by the Department of Navy Human Resources Service Center Southwest located in Downtown San Diego as a Labor Relations Specialist.The primary mission of her division is to rep resent the Secretary of Navy in administrative proceedings, and to provide labor and employee relations advice and guidance for Navy commands in the Southwest, Northwest, Pacific regions, and in the greater metropolitan area of Washington, D.C.
