HEAD COACH 9TH SEASON

Melissa McElvain enters her ninth year as USD's Head Softball Coach. In her first eight seasons as head coach, 28 athletes have earned PCSC All-Conference honors, including the 2004 (Rebekah Bradford) and 2007 (Jennifer Ellenbeck) PCSC Freshman of the Year and the 2006 PCSC Scholar Athlete of the Year (Sara Mason). Un– der McElvain's guidance, 53 student– athletes have earned All-Academic honors, including 36 student-athletes awarded PCSC Commissioner's Honor Roll honors, one PCSC Scholar Athlete of the Year, and a National Academic All-American 3rd Team (Sara Mason). Since the 2005-06 season, McElvain and the team have upheld a 100% NCAA academic progress rating. In 2009... San Diego had a successful campain in 2009 with three 2nd Team All-Con– ference winners, one honorable men– tion recipient, and nine players named to the Commissioner's Honor Roll for academic excellence. San Diego had their best finish in the program's histo– ry taking third place reaching another milestone with 11 conference victories. USD won two consecutive conference series defeating LMU and Santa Clara in their head-to-head PCSC match up. Pitcher Jennifer Ellenbeck jumped into first place with 324 career strikeouts. In 2008... The Toreros had a number of high– lights in 2008. Including a 6-4 victory over No. 17 ranked San Diego State on March 7 at the Diamond Devil Classic in Arizona. Nine opponents USD faced advanced to regionals . The Toreros set a number of team overall marks

including a new high of 22 homeruns and overall hits with 376 to name a couple. In 2007... Coach "Mac" has made huge strides as she guided the Toreros to a record setting 2007 season. The graduating class in 2007 (Virginia Fritsch, Christina Haake, Alicia Massei, Danielle Treiber) tied or set new records in 12 different single season or career categories. As a team, San Diego accomplished 20 division one wins. They also recorded 24 overall wins, the most since the 2000 season. Coach McElvain also hit the century mark with her 100th career victory as head coach at USD on April 16th in an extra-inning victory over Santa Clara. In 2006... The 2006 season offered more proof that the USD softball program is turning the corner and transforming the team into a competitive Division I program that could battle for that
