How to Prep & Stain A Painted Deck It is important to take pride in your home with maintenance. Keeping your deck protected from outdoor elements and looking fresh is easy. WHAT YOU NEED: • Safety glasses • Broom • Synthetic-bristle brush • Extension pole • 4" brush & brush holder • Gloves • Pump sprayer • Roller • Stain • Bucket 1. PREP - Sweep away any leaves or other debris. 2. CLEAN - Apply a deck wash with pump sprayer or watering can. Wait 15 minutes. Mist cleaner with garden hose to keep wet. Scrub away remaining residue. Wash away cleaner. Let dry. 3. STAIN - Apply even coat with wood grain. Work in with brush. Wait 4 hours between coats.
