Mechanical descaling machine for rod wire The descaling machine LMG 75 is a very economical alternative to chemical cleaning and its revolutionary way of operation makes it stand out among the mechanical scale removers. At the entrance, the wire rod is straightened by a set of adjustable rollers. The scale that is taken off during the process is collected and blown onto the wire at the speed of sound (akin to sandblasting). This gives a perfect wire surface by creating a multitude of micro craters, rather than just polishing the wire. The wire rod is perfectly prepared for drawing and following treatments such as galvanising and plating. It was shown that the ‘microcrater’ structure is very beneficial for absorbing the drawing lubricants, and it favours the iron-zinc relation. There are no moving parts (such as brushes or abrasive bands) at the core of the machine, which is made of tungsten carbide. The machine requires ~50-60m³/t of dry compressed air at a pressure of 4-5 bar (59-73 psi). Should the amount of scale on the rod not be sufficient (typical consumption is 6-7 kg/t), an additional provision of scale can be provided. The LMG 75 machine can be used for low and high carbon steel qualities, and suits both vertical and horizontal pay-offs. In many cable applications such as extrusion polymer coating, pre-heating of the material is required together with degreasing. PlasmaCleaner can be used as an efficient and accurate pre-heater, surpassing the energy efficiency of a conventional induction preheater. PlasmaCleaner is a plasma surface treatment machine designed for surface cleaning, degreasing or oxide removal on ferrous and non-ferrous wires. in conjunction with drawing, extrusion, taping or surface coating applications. degreasing is conducted in low-pressure inert atmosphere at high temperatures, where wet lubricants evaporate and get removed through the exhaust system, leaving the wire surface dry and free of lubricants. PlasmaCleaner cannot be used for drawing soap removal, but it can remove surface oxides on copper, aluminium, nickel, stainless steel, and various alloys. PlasmaCleaner can be used Plasma cleaning and

in a drawing or rolling process or improvement in coating adhesion in a continuous coating process. Plasma treatment is a dry process that requires no rinsing or drying. Plasma treated surfaces will exhibit a high degree of passivation, which will protect the surface by slowing down subsequent surface corrosion. A demonstration unit is available for rental. Alternatively a trial can be arranged at Plasmait’s facility in Austria.
