Isaac W. Porter, MD is a fellowship trained refractive surgeon. He is committed to helping his patients obtain

their best possible vision. Dr. Porter's areas of expertise include vision correction with LASIK, SMILE, and

PRK, and advanced cataract surgery including laser cataract surgery and advanced lens implants that can correct

a wide range of vision and correct astigmatism. He is the only surgeon in North Carolina performing the newest

laser vision correction procedure, SMILE.

Dr. Porter received his undergraduate degree from Asbury University and his medical degree from the Universi-

ty of Kentucky (Go Big Blue!). He completed residency in Ophthalmology at the University of North Carolina at

Chapel Hill, and was selected to serve as Chief Resident. Following residency, Dr. Porter completed subspecialty

training with a fellowship in Cornea, External Disease, and Refractive Surgery at the prestigious Illinois Eye and

Ear Infirmary in Chicago, Illinois.

Dr. Porter is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Re-

fractive Surgery, the Refractive Surgery Alliance, and the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels. He is board

certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. In the community, Dr. Porter is an active member and vol-

unteer with the Raleigh Host Lions Club and serves on the board of directors of RLCB, Inc. which empowers

the blind and visually impaired through employment and services. Outside of the office, he enjoys scuba diving

and sports, especially college basketball (Kentucky), football (Steelers) and soccer (NCFC).

Dr. Porter has authored book chapters on mapping the curvature of the cornea and correcting astigmatism using

laser. He has also presented at several national meetings and was featured in articles in Ladies’ Home Journal and

the Raleigh News and Observer.
