Cable deal for offshore power

Parker Hannifin Corporation has been awarded a contract by Northwind NV (a joint venture of the Colruyt Group and Aspiravi NV of Belgium) to supply infield array cables, cable accessories and offshore services for the Northwind Offshore Wind Farm, currently under construction on the Bank Zonder Naam off the coast of Zeebrugge. The order includes the design, production and delivery of 51km of 36kV subsea power cables with built-in fiber optic communication lines. The cables, from Parker’s energy products division, will be used to construct the inner array electrical grid for the wind farm, and will connect all 72 of the 3MW wind turbines to an offshore base station. Parker’s energy products division has deep water quayside manufacturing facilities strategically located in both Tønsberg, Norway and in Freeport, Texas, to handle large vessels and load-out operations (direct spooling to vessels) for large scale power cable, umibilicals and mooring projects. Each cable array for the Northwind farm will be spooled onto reels and shipped from Tønsberg during the spring of 2013.
