1 Roger Délivrant Angélique The story of Ruggiero rescuing Angelica comes from the epic Orlando Furioso, which describes how Ruggiero rides his half-horse, half-eagle winged beast over the Brittany Peninsula to kill a sea monster that is about to devour Angelica. Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres perfectly captures the moment in his 1841 painting.
