On the Allied side, the French were supplied with the Renault R35 infantry tank, and the

Hotchkiss H35. Armour thickness amounted to 30mm, and each was armed with a 37mm gun. Their

big brothers were the massive 31.5t Char B1 and the Somua S35. The Char B1 had 60mm front and

55mm side armour, twice the thickness of the armour of the main German battle tank. Despite its slow

speed of 25 km/h, it had a 75mm gun mounted in the hull as well as a 47mm high-velocity cannon

installed in the turret.
