LEADING THE WAY FOR FOOTBALL CLUBS IN EUROPE | No. 6 - 2015/16

FOREWORD ///////////////////////////////////////////

Dear ECA Member,

With the end of the 2015/16 season slowly approaching, we look back at some busy weeks filled with meetings. Both the UEFA and FIFA Congress took place over the last weeks, which have led to some important decisions. Notably, it was announced that ECA Chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge will be part of FIFA’s new Football Stakeholder Committee as Deputy Chairman, which can be seen as a positive development for ECA and club football as a whole. As you are all aware, over the last couple of weeks, a lot has been said and written about the future format of UEFA’s club competitions. Whilst the ECA Executive Board held initial discussions in this respect at its last meeting, there is no concrete proposal on the table yet. The Board will continue to exchange views in this respect and also seek dialogue with UEFA in the weeks to come. Since most of the domestic championships have come to an end across Europe, I seize the opportunity to congratulate all ECA Member Clubs that have won the domestic league or cup title over the last couple of weeks. Special congratulations go to Sevilla FC for winning the UEFA Europa League last night in Basel for the third consecutive time - what an achievement! Of course, we now look forward to a promising UEFA Champions League final, which will see the two rivals of the Spanish capital Madrid face each other on 28 May in Milano.
