M assachusetts Avenue Heights is far from your standard affluent, coveted Washington, D.C., neighborhood. It’s a neighborhood that plays host to several world embassies, landmarks that include the Washington National Cathedral and the Naval Observa- tory, a cross-section of some of the world’s most influential individuals and high-end homes to match. In 2000, it was Moeen Qureshi, former prime minis- ter of Pakistan and vice president at the World Bank, who moved into the area. “Qureshi was an intriguing man who brought stabilization to Pakistan in a time of crisis and over- saw fair and accurate elections that resulted in the country’s first female prime minister,” says Stewart Coleman of Cold- well Banker Residential Brokerage, who has listed Qureshi’s

estate for sale. “He was an incredible man who did great things for the world.” He also crafted an incredible home out of two side-by-side Mediterranean villas on one of the neigh- borhood’s most prominent streets, embarking on an extensive reworking and renovation that joined the two into one palatial, 15,000-square-foot estate. Not sur- prisingly, it works as well for diplomatic use as it does as a luxury family residence. “It’s set up for very private living and very pub- lic entertaining,” says Coleman. “It’s exceptionally large, even for this area, and includes extensive staff quarters, which is not common in your average D.C. house.” There are wonderful family spaces on every floor, including six of the home’s eight bedrooms, five of its 11 total baths, and a family room on the second floor. “Major events can be going on in another part
