2018 Cam Connect Event Programme
February 2018 Welcome to Cam Connect , the annual careers event which aims to bring together students from all over the University to meet organisations with opportunities in our region. Cambridge's unique position as a centre of high-tech growth and innovation is world-renowned – the Cambridge Phenomenon. In many cases the University has spawned companies which are at the leading edge of technology and business. Some have quickly become familiar names and others are at the exciting start-up stage. At Cam Connect, you will find people from a range of companies, and all will be keen to talk to you about the opportunities they can offer. Study this programme and choose the firms you would like to meet. Be sure to make use of the ‘tick list’; which shows those who are offering non-technical roles and internships, and details the degree disciplines each organisation wishes to attract. Discuss things not usually covered on websites, in recruitment brochures, or that you feel may not be appropriate topics at interview. (Avoid asking detailed questions that are likely to be covered by their recruitment brochures or websites.) Make a note of the people you meet. You can mention their names to help personalise your cover letter if you decide to apply. Do come and talk to us during the afternoon – Careers Advisers will be running ‘quick query’ sessions at the event. They will be available for consultations and will be happy to answer any brief queries, offer information and advice, or give your CV a quick ‘health-check’. Cam Connect has included a Start-Up Zone in recent years however this year there is a dedicated Start Up Event in the Hicks Room on floor 1. Participants are not restricted to being local-to- Cambridge. We hope that you will find both events useful and that they will introduce you to some new career possibilities. If you have access difficulties or are challenged by a noisy, busy environment, please identify yourself at the Careers Service stand and a member of staff will assist you in making the best of the event. We hope you visit both events, if so please be prepared to produce your university ID card at both to assist with our attendance statistics. Do look at our website, www.careers.cam.ac.uk , for lots of other ideas.
