HOT TOPICS Roster Verification Set-Up Period Begins Next Week

Principals and designated district administrators should receive an email on Monday, April 2, announcing that the school set-up period for value-added roster verification is underway through April 17. With the link in that message, which will come from the district’s roster verification service provider, principals and their support teams may gain access to verify and, if necessary, modify staff lists and assignments in preparation for the teacher roster verification period. From April 18 to May 8, teachers who have value-added data from this year’s tests will verify roster data, including the students they taught, how long they taught them, and the percentage of instruction they provided each student. Principals will have until May 24 to approve rosters. Cyber Security The Consortium for School Networking (CoSN) and its Ohio state chapter organization, Learn 21, are pleased to continue to support the work of current and aspiring superintendents and district leadership teams in leading all aspects of digital learning transformations. Last month CoSN shared with BASA members information on Cloud Computing ( click here) . This month we focus on the importance of cyber security. It seems that today there is not a week that passes without a news story related to some sort of breach in security for one organization or another. As school districts rely more and more on digital tools for data records, instruction and many other facets of school or district operations, it is incumbent upon school leaders to understand the issues around cyber security and take appropriate actions to prevent any sort of breach within your systems. CoSN is pleased to help school leaders understand the urgency for assuring that school systems are secure by providing a list of the top five reasons why school leaders must make cyber security a priority. You are encouraged to read this one-page document . If your school or district would like more information about joining CoSN or getting more involved with CoSN, please contact Brian Calvary, CAE, CoSN Director of Membership and Chapters, at bcalvary@cosn.org.
