There are two major laws to be considered when we make use of union and intersection with complements. They are: (A ∪ B)’ = A’ ∩ B’ (A ∩ B)’ = A’ ∪ B’ Next, let us learn one important theorem of sets, that is, n(A ∪ B) = n(A) + n(B) – n(A ∩ B) Let us solve an example to understand the concept well. Suppose Planet M, a renowned music company, conducted a survey among 100 consumers to find their preference for different kind of music--jazz, pop, or classical. The survey results show the following statistics: 44 people like classical music, 15 people like only pop music, 27 people like all three music, and 10 people like jazz and classical, but not pop. Find the number of people who like classical music but not jazz. We can show the facts of the question using the following Venn diagram.
