Awaken The Dawn

AWAKEN THE DAWN!

Remember how the anxious sisters, Mary and Martha, summoned Jesus to come and pray for their dying broth- er? Had they called me, I would have immediately ran to their aid, although unable to help. Most of us are like that; we mean well, but we are misdirected. Jesus sorely disap- pointed the women because He marched to a different drumbeat. In prayer, He received some divine insight that came straight from heaven. He waited until Lazarus was dead and decomposing! Then He came and raised him from the dead. This wonderful action was the direct result of Jesus’ response to crisis with prayer. These words of Henry David Thoreau hang on my wall and seem so descriptive of the person whose life is directed and man- aged by prayer: Why should we be in such desperate haste to succeed, and in such desperate enterprises? If a man does not keep pace with his companions, We take too much for granted the miracle of Jesus’ peace, the calmness of His spirit, and the poise with which He conducted Himself. These attributes flowed from a life of prayer. His peace came from the Father of peace. For instance, on the night that preceded the day He chose the Twelve, He spent the lonely hours in prayer. Then, when He faced the entire company of followers He chose the apostles unerringly with an assurance that could only come from heaven. perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away. 3
