Working Out for an Hour

“Deliver us from the evil one” As we come to the end of the Lord’s Prayer, we petition for deliverance and request protection. Every prayer time should remind us to be alert to the schemes Satan may bring against us as we go about our daily activities. I like to imagine going through the armory mentioned in Ephesians 6. It helps me to visualize the various pieces of armor and deliberately ask God to clothe me with those spiritual attributes. “Dear Lord, let my mind be girded with truth. Thy Word is truth. I am sanctified by Thy truth.” Continue to “put on” the armor: the breastplate of righteousness, the shoes of peace, the helmet of salvation, the shield of faith, and the sword of the Spirit. As you prayerfully ask for protection, your spiritual sen- sibilities will be strengthened. Paul said to “put on” the armor, and how else can it be done except through spe- cific prayer? Our enemy will come as a tempter, accuser, and adver- sary. He will attempt to lie, steal, kill and destroy. Our prayers will be particularly effective if the following thoughts are enjoined: 1. Help me not to provide Satan with compromising, embarrassing situations that will allow him to do his evil work. 2. Give me wisdom to discern and avoid his traps. 3. Enable me to believe that God is my source for all things, and to walk with the same sureness that Jesus had because I know the Father. 4. Help me to be invincible because I want God’s will to
