Garden of the Oil Press T he time for their Passover meal together was fin- ished, and the high priestly prayer has been prayed. Now, to close their activities in that place, they sang a hymn. 1 For Jesus, there seemed to be only one place to go at this moment...the garden called Gethsemane. Directly east across the Kidron Valley from the great mar- ble walls of the temple was the Mount of Olives, and within the olive grove there was an enclosed garden. Jesus probably led the disciples out the north gate of the temple, then headed down through the Kidron Valley toward that secluded spot that had so often been a refreshing retreat for Him and the disciples. It seems plausible that during this walk, perhaps as they came to the outskirts of the orchard, Jesus explained to Peter and the disciples how Satan wished to sift them like wheat. 145
