The men who have done the most for God in this world have been early on their knees. He who frit- ters away the early morning, its opportunity and freshness, in other pursuits than seeking God’s will make poor headway seeking Him the rest of the day. If God is not first in our thoughts and efforts in the morning, He will be in the last place the remainder of the day. 9

“He Awakens Me” When and how does God give His wonderful education to His Servant? The answer is disarmingly simple! God will speak to His Son first thing every morning when He awakens. In fact God Himself will be involved to such an extent that Jesus can say, “He awakens Me morning by morning….” 10 Dare we appropriate such a wonderful promise for ourselves as well? Jesus came to understand that when He awakened each morning, it was not just the result of sleep patterns or bio- logical rhythms. The time of awakening became a divine summons for God’s Servant to present Himself before His Sovereign Lord. There is more intended than the mere physical awakening. This is a summons to hear the Master’s voice bringing instruction for the day. The sum- mons clearly states, “He awakens My ear to listen as a disciple.” The Father will gain the attention of His Servant so that He may instruct Him.
